Djokovic vs Nadal ATP rankings

The leader-board might change after the Asian tournaments.

If Rafa reaches the final at Beijing, he will become no.1 and even if Novak beats Rafa in the finals he can't add any points since he is the defending champion.

If Novak loses in the semifinals at Beijing, Nadal automatically becomes world no.1 even if he does not enter the tournament.

S. Williams interview after finals transcript

Q. Can you just talk about the bout of nerves when you served for the match twice in that second set?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah, I think I got a little uptight, which probably wasn't the best thing at that moment. I started to try to I wasn't playing very smart tennis then, so I just had to relax and not do that again. But I did it again. I don't know.
Q. Beginning of the tournament, any pressure on you to defend your title?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Well, there's always pressure to defend your title. I didn't feel a lot of pressure, but I knew I wanted to win. But I think, you know, losing a match before I got to the Open actually took a little bit of the pressure that was on me off of me, so it made it a little better.
Q. It's obvious that winning Grand Slams, they're all special experiences. But to win it having to sort of face that adversity that you did in the second set, overcome whatever hiccups were there and come back and win dominantly like that in the third, do you relish it all the more to have done it that way?

Azarenka's interview after the finals transcript

Q. How would you describe your determination and Serena's determination once that match got going today?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Well, I think it was raising, you know, from the first point the tension, the battle, the determination, it was raising really, you know, kind of like boiling the water or something. It felt from every point, you know, it was rising the level, and, yeah, it was a great match.
Q. As it went on, how much did you feel that tension?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Well, you always feel it, you know, because you're in that moment. So you just try to stay tough and try to resist for whatever it takes.
Q. That second set obviously was just an amazing comeback on your part.
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Thank you.
Q. Talk about the emotions having completed, you know, and finished that set. But then going into the third set, was there a bit of almost a letdown emotionally?

US OPEN - W(2010)

Rafael Nadal was born in Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain, to Sebastián Nadal, a businessman who owns an insurance company, a glass and window company, Vidres Mallorca, and manages his own restaurant, Sa Punta. His mother is Ana María Parera, a housewife. He has a younger sister named María Isabel. His uncle, Miguel Ángel Nadal, is a retired professional footballer, who played for RCD Mallorca, FC Barcelona, and the Spanish national team. Nadal supports football clubs Real Madrid and RCD Mallorca. Recognizing that Nadal had a natural talent for tennis, another uncle, Toni Nadal, a former professional tennis player, introduced him to tennis when he was three years old.

At age eight, Nadal won an under-12 regional tennis championship at a time when he was also a promising football player. This made Toni Nadal intensify training, and at that time he encouraged Nadal to play left-handed for a natural advantage on the tennis court, as he noticed Nadal played forehand shots with two hands. When Nadal was 12, he won the Spanish and European tennis titles in his age group and was playing tennis and football all the time. Nadal's father made him choose between football and tennis so that his school work would not deteriorate entirely. Nadal said: "I chose tennis. Football had to stop straight away."
When he was 14, the Spanish tennis federation requested that he leave Mallorca and move to Barcelona to continue his tennis training. Nadal's family turned down this request, partly because they feared it would hurt his education, but also because Toni said that "I don't want to believe that you have to go to America, or other places to be a good athlete. You can do it from your home." The decision to stay home meant that Nadal received less financial support from the federation; instead, Nadal's father covered the costs. In May 2001, he defeated former Grand Slam tournament champion Pat Cash in a clay-court exhibition match.

At 15, he turned pro. Nadal participated in two events on the ITF junior circuit. In 2002, at the age of 16, Nadal reached the semifinals of the Boy's Singles tournament at Wimbledon, in his first ITF junior event.
By the age of 17, he beat Roger Federer the first time they played and became the youngest man to reach the third round at Wimbledon since Boris Becker. At 18, he helped pace Spain over the US in the junior Davis Cup in his second, and final, appearance on the ITF junior circuit. At 19, Nadal won the French Open the first time he played it, a feat not accomplished in Paris for more than 20 years. He eventually won it the first four times he played at Roland Garros. In 2003, he had won the ATP Newcomer of the Year Award. Early in his career, Nadal picked up the trademark habit of biting the trophies he won.

Nadal lived with his parents and younger sister Maria Isabel in a five-story apartment building in their hometown of Manacor, Mallorca. In June 2009, Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, and then The New York Times, reported that his parents, Ana Maria and Sebastian, had separated. This news came after weeks of speculation in Internet posts and message boards over Nadal's personal issues as the cause of his setback.
Nadal has revealed himself to be agnostic. When a young boy, he would run home from school to watch Goku in his favorite Japanese anime, Dragon Ball. CNN released an article about Nadal's childhood inspiration, and called him "the Dragon Ball of tennis" due to his unorthodox style "from another planet."
In addition to tennis and football, Nadal enjoys playing golf. Nadal's autobiography, Rafa (Hyperion, 2012, ISBN 1401310923), written with assistance from John Carlin, was published in August 2011

Djokovic vs Nadal - US Open 2013

The game that will be talked about for years and years required 198 strokes, 30 points, and 21 minutes to decide. Entire sets have taken less.

It might be easy to conclude that Novak Djokovic won his tense, topsy-turvy U.S. Open semifinal against Stanislas Wawrinka despite dropping that epic third game of the fifth set. The truth is that the 2011 champion emerged with a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory in 4 hours, 9 minutes on Saturday at least in part because of the one that got away.

S. Williams and Azarenka Rivalry

The Azarenka–S. Williams rivalry is between tennis players Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and Serena Williams of the United States of America, who are engaged in a modern day tennis rivalry. They have played each other twelve times with Serena Williams leading their head-to-head 11–1 and 7–0 in Grand Slam matches. Serena Williams eventually won the championship in nine out of the eleven times she has defeated Victoria Azarenka

Bryan Brothers to finish no. 1 in year end Emirates ATP Doubles TeamRanking for record 9th time

American brothers Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan have clinched the year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Ranking for a record ninth time and for the fifth consecutive season.

The 35-year-old twins were guaranteed the year-end No. 1 ranking after winning their 25th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. Never before has a team clinched year-end No. 1 this early in a season. Cincinnati was their 10th title of an outstanding 2013 campaign, which has seen them triumph at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, making them the first team in tennis history to hold all four majors and the Olympic gold medal at the same time.

They were also champions in Sydney, Memphis, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome and Queen’s, as well as finalists at Houston and Monte-Carlo.  Beginning in Madrid in May, they compiled a remarkable 25-match winning streak, which eventually came to an end in the Montreal quarter-finals in August.

They now go to the US Open looking to become the first team in the Open Era to win the calendar Grand Slam. Not since Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman in 1951 has a team won all four Grand Slams in a season.

"To clinch the year-end No. 1 ranking this early in the season is a dream come true,” said Bob. “It's always our ultimate goal starting out each season and this will give us great confidence going into New York. There is still a lot of tennis left and we want to keep our foot on the gas."

Together with Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, the Bryans are one of only two teams to have won every Grand Slam title as well as an Olympic gold medal. They have won the most doubles team titles in the Open Era with 92, and Mike has the most individual titles with 94.

They also finished as the ATP World Tour No. 1 Doubles Team in 2003, '05-'07 and '09-12. As individuals, Mike has been ranked No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings for 342 weeks and Bob for 333.

The Bryans are bidding to crown their season by winning the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the fourth time, adding to titles in 2003-04 and 2009. They have qualified for the eight-team season finale for the 11th straight year (2003-2013) and 12th time overall (also 2001).

Novak Djokovic 2nd to Qualify at Barclays ATP World Tour Finals

LONDON – Novak Djokovic will attempt to retain his title at the 2013 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, after becoming the second singles player to qualify for the event, to be held at The O2 in London from 4-11 November. He has secured his place at the season finale for the seventh straight year.

"[Being defending champion] adds a little bit of extra expectation and pressure," said Djokovic. "Knowing that I can play that well on the centre stage gives me enough reason to believe that I can do it again. That is something that inspires me to prepare well and perform my best."

The 26-year-old Serbian joins Spaniard Rafael Nadal as the first players to qualify for the event, having amassed sufficient Emirates ATP Rankings points to secure himself a place among the world's Top 8 singles players in London. He has captured titles this season at the Australian Open, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, and also finished runner-up at Wimbledon.

Djokovic won the season-ending title in 2008 (d. Davydenko), when the event was held in Shanghai, and again last year with victory over Roger Federer. "My favourite memory is winning the title in 2012, when I won all five of my matches and I played some of my best tennis," said Djokovic. "It was the best way to finish the season."

Djokovic has ranked No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings for 95 weeks, including the past 44 weeks. He first became No. 1 on 4 July 2011, following his first Wimbledon title.

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals has welcomed more than a million fans to The O2 arena over the past four years, establishing itself as the biggest indoor tennis tournament in the world since moving to London in 2009. Cincinnati Open Quarterfinals Results

US Open

The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament which is the modern iteration of one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, the U.S. National Championship, for which men's singles was first contested in 1881. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final tennis major comprising the Grand Slam each year; the other three are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. It is held annually in late August and early September over a two-week period. The main tournament consists of five event championships: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for senior, junior, and wheelchair players. Since 1978, the tournament has been played on acrylic hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York City. The US Open is owned and organized by the USTA. Net proceeds from high ticket prices are used to promote the development of tennis in the United States as the USTA is a not-for-profit organization

Marion Bartoli Bids Farewell to Professional Tennis

The Frenchwoman made the announcement after losing 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to Simona Halep in the second round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Bartoli, who beat Sabine Lisicki in the final at the All England Club last month to claim her first grand slam title, said in quotes reported on wtatennis.com: "That was actually the last match of my career. Sorry.
"It's time for me to retire and call it a career. I feel it's time for me to walk away actually."
Bartoli blamed a succession of injuries for her decision to call it a day - citing in particular an Achilles problem which was troubling her on the hardcourts.
"My body just can't do it anymore," she said. "I've already been through a lot of injuries since the beginning of the year. I've been on the tour for so long, and I really pushed through and left it all during that Wimbledon.

"I really felt I gave all the energy I have left in my body. I made my dream a reality and it will stay with me forever, but now my body just can't cope with everything.
"I have pain everywhere after 45 minutes or an hour of play. I've been doing this for so long, and body-wise I just can't do it anymore."
Bartoli said she had played through the pain to realise her childhood dream of winning Wimbledon this summer.
She said: "When you dream about something for so long and you've been on tour for many, many, many years and you've been through ups and downs and highs and lows and already a lot of injuries since the beginning of the year, my body was really starting to fall apart, and I was able to keep it together, go through a lot of pain throughout Wimbledon, and still make it happen.
"That was probably the last little bit of something that was left inside me."
Asked what she plans to do next, she said: "There are so many things to do in life rather than playing tennis, so I'm sure I'll find something. I just need a bit of time to settle down.
"There is some excitement as a tennis player. There is a lot of excitement as a woman. There is a lot of excitement as a wife. There is a lot of excitement as a mother. There is a lot of excitement to come up.
"Obviously I'm excited to live my future, but I will have time to think about it in the months, years to come."
Bartoli was introduced to the sport by her father Walter, who remained as her coach for almost her entire career, giving up his job as a doctor to do so.
Noted for her individual style, she won the junior US Open title in 2001 and broke into the WTA top 100 two years later.
She won her first senior title in 2006 in Auckland and cracked the top 10 the following year.
In 2011 she reached the semi-finals of the French Open, but it was this summer - when she claimed the Wimbledon title without dropping a set - that she achieved her crowning glory.
She also achieved a record in doing so, winning her first grand slam title at the 47th attempt - surpassing the previous high of 45, set by Jana Novotna.
